Hilton HHonors Award Category Changes 2014
After last year’s Hilton HHonors devaluation many people became disenchanted by the program. March 28, 2013 three new categories were added to the redemption chart so instead of capping out at 50,000 points per night, suddenly properties required as much as 95,000 points.
Recently, Hilton released a statement that they will be offering greater transparency before any category moves. They will also be shifting away from annual category changes, and posting new hotel categories on their website as they move into the chain.

Hilton recommends using their Standard Room Rewards Search to see how many points a property will redeem at during specific dates.
While I think it is good that Hilton will be communicating better with their members, they are not undoing any of their drastic point redemption changes from last year. I don’t find Hilton to be as valuable of a redemption partner as I did pre-March 2013 but moving forward, I’ll at least hope that they will indeed give members more advance notice to changes and be glad that only a few hotels are moving up in categories this year.
