IHG PointBreaks Terms & Conditions Change
Since IHG’s PointBreaks most recent list is good for stays until May 31, 2014, over the weekend I was thinking that the next list would be published sometime this week.
The list of new properties is not published yet, but IHG has changed the wording on their PointBreaks webpage.
Per LoyaltyLobby, the new Terms & Conditions now includes this wording –
Part I – “Due to the limited availability, each member may only book two PointBreaks® Reward Nights reservations per hotel during the special offer time period.”
This sounds ominous, but all boils down to the fact that that they are limiting the number of reservations per hotel at the PointBreaks rates to two.
In recent lists there have been fewer of the “prime” hotels available on the PointBreaks list, so just getting one reservation at a chosen location hasn’t been easy. However, when multiple nights are needed for a reservation it made sense to book one night on one reservation, one on another, and then if the middle date became available later on then a third reservation could be made. The new rules don’t allow this.
Part II – “Please note that Reward Nights booked through PointBreaks® may not be sold or used for commercial gains. Doing so is a program violation and may result in the freezing of your account, the forfeiture of all point transfers, rewards, vouchers, or merchandise issued pursuant to point redemptions and any accrued points or miles in your account, as well as cancellation of the account and your future participation in the Program.”
This one is more serious, as any reselling of PointBreaks nights is already prohibited. They’ve now added specific language about it. But if you aren’t booking just to turn around and resell you have nothing to worry about.
So, now that the new rules have been added let’s get ready to view the new list, hopefully in the next few days!
