My Favorite Part of a Delano Las Vegas Suite
MGM Resorts International recently finished their renovation of THEHotel at Mandalay Bay into the 43 story Delano Las Vegas, and I couldn’t wait to take a peek at the new rooms. The hotel is all suites, so you can’t go wrong there. No uncomfortably tiny rooms either, as the smallest one at the lowest category is 725 square feet.
One the way to a basic Queen Suite I noticed that the hallways had artwork on the walls every few feet.
Inside the door there was a button specifically for housekeeping, which I thought was a great idea. Sometimes the Do-Not-Disturb sign on the door falls off, and housekeeping is left to guess if you want them to come in and clean. This way there would be no confusion (or at least less).
I couldn’t decide if the room’s powder room was retro-chic, but even without any alcohol it reminded me of fun house mirrors.
The sitting room had a large couch with coffee table and lamps nearby.
Whether having an attack of the midnight munchies or in the mood for tequila,…intimacy and chips, the minibar was ready.
The hotel coffee setup was similar to the Mandalay Bay in that there was a coffee maker, but each coffee cup with stir sticks, creamer and sugar cost $4.
The mattress looked like it had plenty of pillowtop softness, and one thing I appreciated right away was that the air smelled fresh. The hotel is a no smoking, non-gaming property.
The crisp white linens and overall light color scheme were refreshing after having a much gloomier palette when it was THEHotel.
The bed pillows confused me a little. They were wonderful when I used one to prop up and lean against while reading, but seemed way too stuffed for sleeping on. They were synthetic instead of feather too but a call down to housekeeping could certainly provide a pillow swap.
I noticed a built-in sitting area in bedroom for late night gatherings.
The iPhone charger near the bed had the first iPhone 5/6 compatible connector that I have seen at a hotel.
However, the bathroom was my favorite room in the suite!
The bathroom was huge, everything had been laid out very well and the place was spotless.
The sinks were large and the faucets well placed.
There was plenty of counter space even between the two sinks, two outlets near a magnifying mirror, and the large mirror on the wall was backlit. There were even shelves on both sides of the counter.
Travel Update would have been pleased with the easy to locate hair dryer and remote, as she wrote here that hidden hotel hair dryers are a pet peeve of hers.
One of the shelves held a solid container with Q-tips and other helpful items.
A TV hung on the wall that could be easily viewed from the tub or shower.
The tub was extra deep, perfect for soaking in. The water came out of a raised place in the middle of the side of the tub, so there was no faucet awkwardly poking out.
The shower was large and clean, and the water pressure was good.
There were racks above the bathtub that held towels, some more on the shower door, and the well-placed shelves beneath the sinks had extras. Total bathroom towel count = 16.
Placed in a cubbyhole were matching sets of his-and-hers slippers! Perfect for soothing tired feet after a long night of dancing, gambling, or just walking the strip.
I was excited to find Malin & Goetz amenities all over the bathroom, which were perfectly sized at 50 ml so that you didn’t run out after two showers. They also came in fun scents like peppermint and cilantro and were in tubes that were easy to use. Great goodies for bringing back home!
The rum soap smelled delicious but wasn’t overpowering.
On the back of the door two robes gently hung on satin hangers. They were incredibly soft, and I was tempted to put one on over my clothes just to wear it. I must say that if you like robes, you’ll love this one!
It’s a good thing that a sign hung around the neck of each indicating they were for sale, otherwise I could imagine that some guests would want to take them home. I called down to Guest Services to inquire about the cost, and was cheerfully told that they were $100 each and that if I wanted one they’d bring a brand new one right up.
After checking out this suite I had to hurry somewhere else, but I could have happily spent hours in my own private spa of a bathroom here.
Liked the dark colors when it was The Hotel. Looks cheap now.
