Room Service Review: Penha Longa
I had enjoyed eating at Penha Longa’s lobby restaurant B Lounge while in Sintra Portugal, so for a rainy night I thought I’d order dinner through room service rather than going out. The prices were high (burgers for 18 EUR), but there wasn’t anything else within walking distance to the resort and thus would have required getting in the car to drive somewhere.
This evening’s picks: Pizza Margherita, Burger, Apple pastry dessert with Ice Cream.
Tick Tock: When placing the call, room service said to allow 30 minutes for delivery. I was pleased that it just took 24 minutes before someone came to deliver. He wheeled in the tray and swiftly set up the tablecloth and fixings for a cozy dinner in.
My husband was pleased with the burger he got in B Lounge, which I wrote about here. He was anticipating a large juicy burger. Instead we were surprised to see that the burger delivered for room service turned out to be so small.
It was tasty though and was inhaled in a matter of minutes.
The fries that came with the burger turned out to be my favorite part of the meal. Crispy, hot and salty, they were long and curved at both sides in a slight U shape which made them perfect for scooping up or dipping into ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise. Excellent, and we devoured every single one.
The pizza was next to be tried. I couldn’t wait to crunch into that thin crust.
Lukewarm at best, the crust was sadly not crunchy at all but limp and there seemed to be a whole lot of seasoning sprinkled on top but not a lot of flavor. It was very thin, but in this case that just meant it didn’t have a lot of substance.
After a few bites I realized the further I got to the middle of the pizza the soggier it got, and the more rubbery the cheese was. I tried folding the pizza in half and using a fork to scoop up pieces but didn’t end up finishing it all.
A small side salad had come on the plate with the burger. I enjoyed the fresh greens, and the tomatoes were fresh.
For dessert, the french vanilla ice cream was nice and creamy. The crust of the pastry was good and had a hearty sprinkling of powdered sugar over the top, but the “apple” filling turned out to be chock-full of raisins, so much that it could have been called a raisin dessert instead.

Parting thoughts – Overall, the meal had small portions for the price. The fries were great, but next time I’d skip the in-room dining and get something at a nearby restaurant.
Overall score – 3/5
