Global Hashtags Pull Plane for Charity
Yesterday my alarm interrupted my slumber by buzzing repeatedly in the dark. I groaned at the early wake-up, but I didn’t hit the snooze button (well, maybe just once). I had been invited by Pizza in Motion to participate in a charity event to raise money for cancer awareness, and I was looking forward to it. Cancer awareness is something near and dear to my heart, as I figure it is for many of my readers.
The event was called Relay For Life of Delta GO, and our team was dubbed the GlobalHashtags. We were able to raise over $5,000 from just our team alone, and overall the amount raised from the event topped $200,000. All proceeds went to American Cancer Society.
If you are interested in donating you can do so by clicking here to be taken to our team page.
Bus transportation was provided to the event, and as we pulled up to the gate we found that there was a buzz of excitement in the air.
The smell of barbecue filled the air, and my husband enjoyed a spicy sausage.
Each team differentiated themselves, one of which used Day-Glo yellow/green shirts. I saw a team dressed in sparkly tutus, and the Angry Birds team cracked me up with their original style.

We were given a heads-up when there were just a few teams in front of us, and then it was our turn! We ran to the line and grasped the thick rope. The goal was to be the fastest team to pull the plane across the finish line, and a large timer sat nearby that the rest of the crowd could watch.
It was over pretty fast, and afterwards we gathered for a group photo, which comes to us courtesy of fellow blogger MJ on Travel, who offers helpful tips on traveling well.
Our team had been entered in the corporate division, and I heard afterwards that we had done well and were actually in the running for first prize. Wow, we must have had some strong pullers on our team. It was not to be though, as another team later in the day beat our time. Coming in 2nd place at the event though was a nice surprise. Go Globalhashtags!
It was a fun event for a great cause. A big thanks to Pizza in Motion for the invite and Delta for holding the event!
