Hyatt’s 2nd Centric Hotel Now Open
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has opened their second Hyatt Centric property, in South Beach Miami this week. Not familiar yet with Hyatt Centric yet? It’s a brand that Hyatt announced in January, and so far there is just one other hotel, Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago which opened in late April 2015.
According to the press release, here’s how Hyatt Centric can be explained –
The Hyatt Centric South Beach sits on Collins Avenue and 16th Street, where the old Tropical Gardens apartments used to be. Hyatt demoed the building and started fresh, in 2013.
The 105 guest room property has an outdoor swimming pool and deck, and a Spanish-Mediterranean restaurant called DECK 16. The food is locally sourced, here is their breakfast and lunch menu, and here is the dinner menu.
Hyatt Centric has a signature room service offering, which is that certain menu items and cocktail kits are delivered to rooms in 20 minutes or less.
Here’s the list of locations where Hyatt hopes to open more Centric properties soon –
In a brochure aimed at developers and owners, the words “full service” and “efficiency” are both used.
I can’t decide yet if this is one of those brands meant to be marketed to Millennials, but when looking at the room info I noticed that the basic room starts at 300 square feet and the suites top out at 587 square feet.

Checking a random date of July 15, 2015 the best available rate came to $259 and AAA was $234.
Note that this property offers valet parking only, at $40 a night.
Also, this property has a resort fee of $20 per day. I was glad that it was boldly displayed when I was doing a mock reservation.
As a Diamond guest, I already get two bottles of water daily as well as a newspaper and premium internet.
The beach looks lovely but I probably wouldn’t use the beach chairs/towels, nor the fitness center, or in-room bluetooth. What I don’t like is that there is no way to opt out and NOT pay the resort fee.
Here’s a booking link.
I love that Hyatt is adding new properties, and it looks like Just Another Points Traveler has already stayed at this hotel and has a review which you can read by clicking here.
