Where Did 50 Cent Spend All His Money?
Curtis James Jackson III (otherwise known as 50 Cent) filed for bankruptcy yesterday, just hours before he was due to appear in court to find out if he would be responsible for punitive damages related to a sex tape he posted online of fellow rapper Rick Ross’ ex-girlfriend Lastonia Leviston. Bankruptcy protection will most likely halt the lawsuit, but with 50 Cent’s assets and debts somewhere between $10 and $50 million you kind of wonder where all that money went. Cue the jokes about him not having 50 cents…
Conde Nast Traveller published an article titled Around the World with 50 Cent just days before the bankruptcy, and it offers an interesting look at some of the travel habits of Mr. Jackson by way of their interview.
In the interview he says, “I live in hotels! I spend more time in hotels than I do at home”. It can be tough when you’re on the road a lot especially when you own homes in LA, Atlanta, New Jersey and Connecticut like he does, but in his case he doesn’t appear to be redeeming points for his hotel stays or looking for a nearby Hilton.
He loves The Peninsula Hotels, and I do admit he has great taste. The average price of a room at the Peninsula in Beverly Hills is $800 a night. The stunning flagship Hong Kong property rate hovers around $500 for a regular room and suites like the Grand Deluxe Harbor View Suite can be had for a mere $2500, not including transportation in their signature deep green colored Bentleys & Rolls Royce. Staying at Peninsula Hotels often, especially in the suites will definitely put a hole in your wallet.
He has also stayed at the Burj Al Arab, which is touted as the world’s only 7 star hotel. It also has some of the most expensive suites in the world, with one of their basic Royal Suites going for $24,000 a night. No word on which room 50 Cent stayed in or how often, but even he noted how expensive it was. Here’s a video of an insanely pricey top suite at the St Regis Abu Dhabi that goes for $40,000 a night.
50 Cent has been on safari in Africa but I’m guessing only once, and this part of the interview cracked me up –
50 Cent also reportedly enjoys the minibar occasionally, especially cashews and the miniature bottles of vodka. He probably needed a couple after his excursion in Africa, and I’m hoping his bankruptcy doesn’t force him to go camping any time soon.
OMFG, this is such a timely and, er, um, eh, informative (yeah that’s it) post! HT: VFTW for linking to this …
…rap being a form of music created by one performer shouting obscenities in a singsong voice while other performers torture a cat and throw garbage cans down a flight of stairs…
Child support doesn’t/didn’t help along w/ hanging out w/ Mayweather.
Just an FYI, he filed chapter 11, not the more familiar chapter 7, he likely has many millions of non-liquid assets tied up in different investments. This just buys him some time and flexibility, I don’t think he’s going to have to resort to tents or relying on miles like the rest of us anytime soon.
Joe, I’m with you and figure he won’t have any trouble coming out of this with more of his assets intact than most of us will see in a lifetime. Thanks for reading!
