Starwood added a great new property to Cascais in Portugal earlier this week – the Sheraton Cascais Resort. Formerly known as the Vivamarinha Hotel & Suites, the property regularly got rave reviews from travelers and has a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor and just about every other hotel review site.

Situated in an ideal location just a half-hour away from Lisbon and close to the old Formula 1 track at Esteroil, the Sheraton Cascais is a perfect jumping off point for exploring the Sintra mountains or the coast. Here’s a screenshot of the Sheraton Cascais grounds –

There are also a handful of golf courses close by. I reviewed the nearby Penha Longa resort and loved the beautiful and quiet area it was located in. You can read about my day in Sintra, Portugal here too, including a trip to the lighthouse at Cabo da Roca.

The press release says the Sheraton Cascais Resort has 138 total rooms and suites, but Starwood’s website says there are actually 146 rooms with 102 of them suites.

Either way it looks like over 100 of the rooms are suites, which is a phenomenal ratio. The suites also range from one to three bedrooms, with one of the two-bedrooms labeled the Panoramic Suite that has a rooftop terrace and jetted tub and 1281 square feet. The largest of the suites seems to the be the three bedroom Deluxe Suite with 2228 square feet.

Here’s a screengrab of one of the suites from Starwood’s website, though as there aren’t many pictures yet it doesn’t specify which suite type it is.

There is also an outdoor poor, spa, two bars and a restaurant.

Doing a random search for a room on Wednesday March 2, 2016 the lowest rate (prepaid) came back at a reasonable 140 EUR, or about 153 USD.

The Sheraton Cascais is a Starwood category 4 property, requiring 10,000 Starpoints for a free night.

To me this looks like a solid property to try out, and though I loved the Penha Longa I would absolutely give this Sheraton a go the next time I’m in Portugal.

Did anyone stay at the resort when it was the Vivamarinha?
