Daily Getaways: Wyndham Rewards Points Packages Today

Today is the first day of Week 2 of the US Travel Association’s Daily Getaways.

For those not familiar with Daily Getaways, over the next three weeks, travel deals and packages will be available on a first-come first-served each weekday from April 4, 2016 through May 6, 2016. For a look at last week’s offers click here.

For a refresher on what’s coming up this week, here’s the calendar –

The deal today is for Wyndham Rewards points, which is one of this year’s Daily Getaways that I think has really great value and deserves a further look.

15,000 Wyndham Rewards points for $150 (1,333 packages available)

The packages go on sale at 1pm EST today.

To purchase the deal today, click the individual link above or follow this link to the calendar for the week of April 11, 2016 and select the package you are interested in. You can purchase a maximum of 2 sets of points, so you’d max out at 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points for $300.

Wyndham Rewards points are typically sold on their website in increments of 1,000 points but you can only buy a maximum of 5,000 for $55 per year. If you purchase a Daily Getaways 15,000 points package (or two if you are lucky enough) you’ll be sitting in a prime seat for redemption. Why?

Last May Wyndham changed up their awards program and you can now redeem 15,000 points for a night at any of their properties, in every tier and in every brand (points & cash awards are available too, requiring just 3,000 points plus cash). That includes top tier 9 properties that previously required 50,000 Wyndham Rewards points for a single night. I foresee this Daily Getaways offer going super fast today.

Wyndham Rewards points expire after 18 months of no activity, but with over 7,800 properties worldwide you’ve got plenty of options, and honestly I think their redemption program is a little too good to last forever. Redeeming for the equivalent of $150 a night at some Wyndham properties isn’t a great deal, but some of their properties are definitely worth redeeming those points at and I wouldn’t hold onto the points for too long.

Here’s a great example: Tryp by Wyndham Times Square South

New York City is a pricey city to stay in, and checking some random dates for Tryp the lowest I could find was $242 a night, and up to $400. Tripadvisor reviews give this Midtown Manhattan property an average of a solid 4.5 stars, and there are no blackout dates when redeeming. Note that in order to redeem at this property some members have found better success by calling customer service.

Don’t forget the all-inclusive Wyndham resorts, like the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach in the Bahamas that had rates around $212 a night (for two adults) when I checked random dates for the summer. If all-inclusive is something you enjoy, there are several of these types of Wyndham properties in Mexico and the Dominican Republic as well where you can redeem 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points for a free night.
