Daily Getaways: $1000 Expedia+ Hotel Coupon for $650
Today is Day 3 of Week 2 of the US Travel Association’s Daily Getaways.
For those not familiar with Daily Getaways, over the next three weeks, travel deals and packages will be available on a first-come first-served each weekday from April 4, 2016 through May 6, 2016. For a look at last week’s offers click here.
Today’s deal is for a Expedia+ package –
$1,000 Expedia+ hotel coupon and +gold status through February 28, 2017 for $650 (50 packages available)
The package goes on sale at 1pm EST today.
You can use the $1,000 Expedia+ Hotel coupon at any of the 269,000 Expedia Rate hotels, and if redeemed at one of the 2,000 VIP Access properties you’ll get special amenities such as free parking, room upgrades and spa credit.
It is important to note that the coupon can only be used once, and any leftover value is voided. It also can only be used for one hotel room, rather than a couple of them. This part is disappointing if you were hoping to use this $1,000 coupon as Expedia+ credit to use towards several rooms, or for a couple different hotel stays.
Since it is categorized as a “coupon” rather than a “credit”, it cannot be combined with any special promotions or other coupons. It also cannot cover any taxes due on the reservation. The best use seems to be using it to make one large purchase $1,000+ at a property where no discounts or promos are available, where all you have left to pay is the taxes. The coupon purchase is nonrefundable, and can only be used on hotels where payment is required in advance.
Would I want to use this coupon for a Starwood, Hyatt, Marriott, etc. stay where I have status in the hotel’s loyalty program? No, because I already get better benefits via the loyalty program than the +gold status would provide, and probably want the stay to count toward re-qualification. I also would want to use my credit card of choice at check-out to maximize my earning for the stay, rather than at the time of purchase through the Daily Getaways portal.
Even hotels that don’t have a points-based loyalty program like the luxurious Four Seasons might at first glance be a good choice, since they are sold on Expedia. However, the benefits when booking directly through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts outweighs any benefits that the Expedia +gold status might offer.
Even though the coupon itself does not expire and the package will be available for purchase until May 13, 2016 (or while supplies last), the +gold status will end February 28, 2017. There are 50 packages available, and you can purchase a maximum of 1.

To purchase the deal today, click the individual link above or follow this link to the calendar for the week of April 4, 2016 and select the package you are interested in. You can purchase a maximum of 5 sets of points, so you’d max out at 50,000 Best Western Rewards points for $275. The T&C say that if you purchase this package, within 10 business days of purchase the coupon will be deposited into your Expedia account.
I’m sure there are some good uses for the $1,000 coupon since you are saving $350, but I won’t be purchasing one of these deals today. Will you? If so, what property are you planning to use the coupon for?
