Hyatt Gold Passport 2016 Award Category Changes

Hyatt Gold Passport recently refreshed its website, and yesterday they announced the adjustment of hotel award categories for just over 100 properties for 2016 that go into effect August 1, 2016.

If you spot a hotel that you have plans to stay at and the property is increasing in category (as well as the points needed to redeem), as long as you book prior to August 1 you will redeem at the current rates. For hotels decreasing in category and requiring less points, you’ll want to wait until August 1 to make your redemption reservation if you can.

I held my breath as I scanned the list, and let it out with relief when I saw that no properties were moving up to category 6 or 7, and there were just a handful moving up to category 5.

Slight adjustments and changes to the award chart are to be expected each year as Hyatt reviews the pricing for each property, and there are no big surprises on this year’s category change list. For example, the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport is moving up a category from 2 to 3. They just finished renovating all the rooms though (including new beds), and most likely feel that they have a better product to offer now.
