The #1 Tourist Attraction in Every Country, According to Tripadvisor
Tripadvisor is a good place to turn when planning out where to stay during travels. They even have a helpful tool where you can inquire about ‘things to do’ whether bored in your hometown or looking for adventure abroad.
Recommendations and suggestions are given by travelers reviewing the attractions, and a list is generated from the most popular for each location.
Recently, Vouchercloud compiled all the data and put together a map of the world showing the top tourist attraction for every country.
The map is interesting, but the results aren’t consistently what I expected. There are some surprises. For example, when I think of France the first thing that pops into my head is the classic Eiffel Tower. A romantic stroll at night perhaps to see the glittering lights, or a picnic underneath on the lawn with the family.
Not so fast, say Tripadvisor reviewers. The winning attraction in all of France is the Musée d’Orsay, a museum internationally known for the large assortment of impressionist masterpieces.
Some top attractions made absolute sense to me, such as The Great Wall at Mutianyu, or Japan’s Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.
Poor South Korea though, with the Seoul Metro is listed as the #1 attraction. When I visited Korea my trip including all sorts of things like visiting the DMZ which I found fascinating, and would even say my hotel was more interesting than the metro.
Of course, even though there are over 430 million reviews on Tripadvisor we know that not every age group or demographic is represented equally. There is a heavy leaning towards US reviewers, as well as those who travel with children.
This makes sense when you see what the top attraction is in all of England. Stonehenge you might guess, or perhaps the Tower of London or Windsor Castle.
Nope. If you’ve got kids you might have already figured out it is the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
