What Hotels And Wineries Are Damaged or Closed due to the Napa and Santa Rosa Fires
The huge fires sweeping through the Napa and Santa Rosa areas in California have been leaving wide trails of devastation. Although firefighters are working hard to get things under control, the list of wineries and hotels that are closed/damaged is still growing.
The Hilton Sonoma Wine Country hotel got hit hard with fire damage, and is closed indefinitely (that means 130 jobs are also gone). Drone footage shows the extensive damage.
Fountaingrove Inn was also destroyed in the fire.
Best Western Plus Wine Country Inn & Suites (reported minimal damage on their Facebook page).
Other hotels in the area that are currently closed but planning to reopen soon –
One of my go-to properties in Napa, the Hilton Garden Inn Napa, reported on their Facebook page October 12 that they had been without power, but anticipate the hotel opening in the next few days. Checking their website it looks like they are either still not open or just completely full. You can read my review of the property here.
The Hilton Garden Inn Santa Rosa has a message on their website stating that they are temporarily closed.
The beautiful boutique Olea Hotel (top photo) is temporarily closed, and according to their website they will be refunding all deposits made for reservations through 12/31/17. That goes for bookings made through third party sites such as Expedia or Booking.com though you’ll need to contact the third party site first rather than contacting the hotel directly.

For those that are used to enjoying wine tasting before returning back to their hotels for the evening, here is a list of the wineries that have been damaged by the wildfires. I’m glad to hear that between 85-90% of the grapes had already been harvested this season so there isn’t as much of focus on smoke taint as there would have been earlier in the season.
The Northern California fires continue to burn though, and my heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by the fires.
How you can help:
Airbnb has launched their Open Homes program, which was started in 2012 when they found that volunteer hosts were willing to offer no-cost temporary housing for displaced locals and emergency aid workers. If you live in and around San Francisco county, Alameda County, North Contra Costa County, and Mendocino County and can offer space in your home through October 30, 2017, consider using the Open Homes program. You do not need to be a registered Airbnb host already.

One of my co-workers lost his home in the Santa Rosa fire. They woke up at 2:30am with fire in their front and back yard. They left the house wearing pajamas and no shoes. Their entire neighborhood was destroyed. Such a horrible tragedy, but luckily for them they were able to escape.
I’m so sorry to hear that Lee @ BaldThoughts. It must have been a frightening experience for them, and I’m glad they made it out safely. Now comes a difficult part in another way – rebuilding their home and lives.
