SPG Hot Escapes Great Picks for July 15, 2015
Happy Wednesday! The SPG Hot Escapes weekly list came out this morning. Here’s the full list, and some of Magic of Miles’ great picks including one in Panama and two US properties great for mattress runs.
Oddly, the list has reverted back to the old format that SPG used prior to just a few weeks ago when they made a change to the site. Yay! I suspect it is just temporary, but I personally prefer the look of the “old list” since it allows you to scan the entire list at once rather than just certain areas. I also didn’t like the graphics heavy format and preferred just the data, not needing to search by which hotels are close to shopping or beaches.
For those who aren’t familiar with Hot Escapes, SPG combined Beat The Timer for Hot Escapes and Starpicks into something called Hot Escapes. Every Wednesday at 6am EST new properties are added and must be booked by that Saturday, for stays during the following six weeks. As an SPG member, you also save an extra 5% and earn points for the stay.
The only downside is that reservations are prepaid, and if you change or cancel a fee is involved.

The Westin Orlando Universal Boulevard in Florida has a great rate of $85, though just on a couple of Sundays in August.
Here’s the mattress running roundup for the week – Aloft Tempe in Arizona at $60 for a dozen dates and Four Points by Sheraton at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona for $59 a night on a handful of days in July.
Four Points by Sheraton Fort Myers Airport in Florida has a rate of $80 for the next two weeks.
If you’ve wanted to stay at The Equinox, a Luxury Collection Golf Resort & Spa in Vermont, even though the $234 rate is listed as a “25% savings” off the regular rate, keep in mind that at the beginning of June it was down to $185. Not a huge jump but not the lowest rate of the season.
Sheraton Soma Bay Resort in Egypt has a low SPG member rate of $59, with wide open availability.
Le Méridien N’Fis in Morocco is at $80 for just about every day, the lowest rate we’ve seen all year.
Sheraton Paris Airport Hotel & Conference Centre has a member rate of $166 for every day.
The UAE has three properties on offer this week –
Le Méridien Amman in Jordan is at $134.
Back in April, the W Doha Hotel & Residences in Qatar was offered at $261, and this week it has dropped to $235.
Sheraton Xiamen Hotel in China is offered at $99.
Sheraton Mirage Resort & Spa Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia was at $125 at the beginning of June. It’s on the list this week at a still-reasonable rate of $138, which is a 25% savings over the regular rate.
In Germany the Le Méridien Hamburg is $126.
Le Méridien Mexico City is offered at a low rate of $114 for two dates at the end of August.
We’ve seen the Westin Excelsior in Rome listed at under $230 on both January and April’s lists, but it is still at a decent rate this week of $249 especially considering it is the middle of popular tourist season.
Heading to Panama? The Category 3 Sheraton Panama Hotel & Convention Center has a great low member rate of $106 on the weekends especially since the usual prepaid rate is $136.
W Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico is up just a smidge from June’s $253 to this week’s $246.
