The World’s First Year-Round ICEHOTEL is Now Open
In the tiny village of Jukkasjärvi in Sweden lies ICEHOTEL 365, the first year-round part of the famous fairy-tale ice hotel.
Constructed of snow and ice blocks originating from the nearby Torne River, the ceiling and walls are sturdy and assisted by structural pillars made of concrete and covered in ice & snow.
The temperature inside the hotel holds steady at 23 degrees Fahrenheit, with help from steel pipes that run 16 feet underground. Utilizing the midnight sun that beams 24 hours a day in the summer, there are solar panel powered cooling systems to keep it from melting. Located on the roof, the solar panels generate 130,000 kWh per year which is enough to warm restaurants and other attached buildings.
27 years in the making, the year-round hotel 125 miles north of the Arctic Circle has just 9 guest room suites. In the hotel there are also saunas, ice sculptures, and of course an ice bar.
With guest rooms starting at around 135 USD per night, you can snuggle up warmly in the hotel-provided toasty thermal sleeping bags. Because the hotel is open to the public between 10am and 6pm, you’ll also have the place to yourself in the evenings.
