Hotel Adlon Kempinski Staff Under Fire for Alleged $1 Million Drinks Scam
Lobby bar staff at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin have come under scrutiny after being accused of pocketing over $1 million in a drinks scam.
The hotel reported to authorities once they discovered accounting discrepancies. Under the alleged scam, staff sold drinks at the bar using a private bill that enabled them to misappropriate funds. Even if the amounts were small to begin with, at the end the reported amount was over a million Euros. I know bar tabs can add up fast, but that’s a lot of drinks!
Staff being looked into have been suspended while police carry out their investigation. The hotel has not published any details on how many employees might have been involved, nor any information about how long the alleged scam was going on.
Hotel Adlon Kempinski has been a preferred hotel choice for celebrities and dignitaries alike, and previous guests have included Angelina Jolie, former US president Barack Obama, and Michael Jackson.
