My Italy trip was nearing the end, but there was still time for more Italian food! Even though I was going to enjoy the Hyatt Diamond breakfast the next morning at the Park Hyatt Milan, I decided to try their room service lunch as well.

Here’s a picture of their menu, which had carefully been laid on the desk before my arrival.

I really just wanted a pizza, but surprisingly they didn’t have any. I guess my stereotype of thinking pizza is everywhere in Italy is like thinking pie is everywhere in the US. Not much else appealed to me from the menu, but I was hungry.

A call to room service confirmed that they could make a spaghetti marinara even though it wasn’t on the menu, so I ordered one of those and a spaghetti carbonara. The total came to 40 EUR.

Tick tock: The timeframe given for order delivery was 30 minutes. After 26 minutes the door buzzed with a cheerful waiter. He set up the table quickly, I signed, and he was on his way.

Everything was presented very nicely, with silver utensils and a plant centerpiece.

There was fresh parmesan cheese, so my hopes were high for the meal.

The spaghetti marinara looked mouthwatering, but was salty, overcooked, and lukewarm. Ordering off the menu is always a bit of a gamble since it is something the kitchen is not continuously providing. This restaurant has one Michelin star though, so I expected the simple dish to be great.

The spaghetti carbonara was hot, but the panchetta was a bit fatty and the noodles weren’t properly al dente either. The dish was also too salty.

I didn’t finish the spaghetti marinara, but there was a large bread basket included. I tried a couple of the thin crispy breads.

Delicious. I generously poured olive oil and balsamic vinegar onto the bread plate and swirled a piece of bread in it.

The bread wasn’t warm but it was freshly made and tasty.

Utensils – ✔
Time from call to delivery – 25 minutes ✔
Temperature of food – X (marinara wasn’t hot enough)
Correctness of order – ✔
Parting thoughts – Too expensive for a so-so lunch, especially when the bread was the best part.

Overall score – 3/5
