Driving to Milan from Santa Margherita Ligure, I Â left behind the seaside villages and entered the dynamic city. Thank goodness for GPS, it would have been much more difficult to navigate the one-way streets using a map. We were returning the rental car at the nearby train station, but wanted to check in to the hotel first. Pulling up to the front of the Park Hyatt Milan, a valet attendant stood at the ready. A doorman ushered me straight in and to the left to the check-in counters.
I had booked the room at the best available rate, used a Hyatt Diamond confirmed suite upgrade, and requested an Executive Suite at the time of booking in case one was available. Â Since this is a category 7 property I didn’t want to part with that many points because the rate was extremely reasonable for what I got.
The check-in hostess showed me to the room. Once I got there, I asked if it was a Jr suite, since there was no separating door between bedroom and sitting room which I prefer.
She said that it was, because the Executive Suite was sold out for the dates I was there.
After such a lovely view at the hotel in Santa Margherita, I went to the window but found it didn’t open all the way. I was able to open it just wide enough to get a full view of an interior courtyard.
Although not a great view, at least there was no traffic noise!
The room was decorated in autumn colors, with a minimalistic look. Lots of mirrors too. In typical Park Hyatt fashion, everything was impeccably clean and carefully arranged.
A plate of fresh fruit and a bottle of wine was waiting as a welcome amenity.
There were velvet pillows, and lots of light.
There was a flat screen TV and large travertine desk for working.
Especially convenient was an outlet on the desk that was directly compatible with multiple other country plugs.
There was also an Illy coffee machine, complete with cups and saucers.
The bathroom was enormous. It had thick robes, towels, custom bronze faucets, an octogon shaped shower, and its own window opening to the courtyard.
There were several sets of perfumed amenities, custom made just for the Park Hyatt Milan by local perfumer Lauro Tonatto. A loofah and natural sponge were included in the bathroom goodie selection.
The only downside to the bathroom is that the closet is in there too without any separating wall, so any dampness could be transferred onto clothes. Plus, the minibar was under the sink. I thought it a rather odd place to place the minibar, but at least it was fully stocked!
The deep tub was perfect for soaking.
I wanted to take a bath with just a few lights on rather than the entire bathroom, but after fumbling the switch to on, off, middle switch on, off, maybe all at once… I could only get full darkness or a display worthy of Disney’s Main Street Parade.
After a refreshing bath, we went out to see a bit of the city. The Park Hyatt is in a perfect location, right in the middle of everything. Stepping out of the hotel you are right next to the Duomo, shops, and restaurants.
Returning to the hotel, the room was wonderfully quiet in the way that all hotel rooms should be. No noise transfer whatsoever. Turndown service had left a little surprise gift box, drawn the shutters, and lowered the lights. The bedroom was now bathed in a soft golden light, which matched the color of the incredibly silky sheets, pillowcases, and duvet. The feather pillows had just the right fluff, and the mattress was not too hard and not too soft. Even the padded headboard was enrobed in a silky covering. Ah, what a luxuriously marvelous bed!
Inside the goodie box was a trio of cookies to enjoy with a glass of milk or a favorite bedtime drink. They were a bit hard, but were handmade without preservatives and contained cinnamon, coconut, butter, sugar…all the best cookie ingredients.
After a wonderful night’s sleep, I awoke to the gentle early morning light and decided to go down to breakfast.
As a Hyatt Diamond member, breakfast in the La Cupola restaurant is free, and is served until 11am.
I was led to a couch/chair combo by a smiling attendant and given a menu. I ordered scrambled eggs off the menu, and decided to try the buffet. There was the bread table, with fresh loaves of assorted breads. There were slices of meat, even a meat slicer, and two types of quiche. Moving to the next table I saw bircher muesli, flaky croissants, jellies, etc.
The eggs came, but were rubbery, overcooked, and tasteless. Thankfully I had the rest of the buffet to enjoy. The croissants in particular were deliciously hot, buttery, and flaky.
With a slightly late check out of the hotel at 12:30pm, a taxi cab was arranged with the bellman for a ride to Linate airport, which cost 20 EUR.
In conclusion, I think this hotel has a phenomenal location in Milan. Park Hyatts do a wonderful job of paying attention to detail, and this one did not disappoint. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
