Sitting in front of the large picturesque windows overlooking the tops of pine trees and the valley below, I decided to order room service at the Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe instead of leaving the peaceful view.

Items chosen from the menu: The chef’s grilled cheese with heirloom tomatoes, mac n cheese, peanut butter & jelly sandwich, and cotton candy.

Tick Tock: The food arrived in 25 minutes, delivered by a friendly and efficient attendant.

The total came to $68, including tax & gratuity

I took a big bite of the sandwich first. The bread was buttery and grilled, the tomatoes were juicy, and the avocado was fresh. It was a tasty sandwich.

The mac n cheese was next. It was ordered from the kid’s menu, so I was surprised to see such a huge portion. In fact, it was in one of those endless bowls so even after I had finished it looked like I hadn’t touched it. It was hot, melty, and the noodles were good and not mushy.

The bread for the PB & J was fresh and soft. The peanut butter was standard, as was the jelly. Not gourmet, but decent.

The kids items came with cups of juice and water, fruit, and fries. LOTS of fries. They were ok, but the portion was way too much even for two adults.

A fun item was the cotton candy. I couldn’t recall seeing it on a room service menu before so I ordered it to see how it was. The sticky pink fairy sugar was just as if I had come from the fair.

Later in the evening, I placed another order with room service. The Manzanita Restaurant downstairs had some good meals listed on their menu, but I didn’t feel like eating in the restaurant so I asked the room service attendant if I could order it to be delivered. She said of course, that wouldn’t be a problem. I ordered the homemade tagliatelle, and the menu said it came with a pine nut basil pesto and parmigiano reggiano. The pasta with fresh peas and mint was outstanding, but there were onions in the dish. I re-read the description in the menu and it didn’t say anything about onions.

Parting thoughts – The fresh ingredients were great. The onions should have been disclosed on the menu though.
