Hotel Review: Ritz-Carlton Washington DC
I was in Washington DC for a single night, and decided to try the Ritz-Carlton which is right in the heart of downtown.
In the lobby hung a cascading chandelier. Beneath, the table displayed a special array of beautiful red & white colored flowers with blue and gold accents, in honor of Independence Day.
A nearby table held decorated cupcakes which were delicious and fresh, and a lobby attendant offered me some champagne in celebration. What a welcome reception!
Coffee & tea were also available.
Looking around the room, I noticed some artwork. One of the tables had a fun arrangement of apples in the same arrangement as in the picture.
The hotel has a total of 300 rooms, 32 of which are suites. I had booked a Jr Suite by paying the best available rate during a sale, and I was quickly checked in and given a room on the 9th floor.
Getting off the elevator on floor 9, there was a table with a large glass jar of mints.
On the way down the hall I chuckled as I saw there was a West Wing Suite.
I was fortunate enough to get a Jr suite at the end of the L-shaped hallway. These corner rooms/suites are my favorite in any hotel, since there is no one next to you on one side and that means a quieter stay.
Entering the room, the sitting area had a couch, desk, a table, TV.
The room was spacious and decorated in warm tones.
I liked the desk layout. Instead of being positioned to face a wall, this one utilized the corner space while facing the room.
Through French doors was the bedroom.
Lamps of just the right size were bedside on small tables. The bed itself was ok, but not as firm as I would have liked.
There was a radio/clock on one of the tables.
The bathroom was clean, and there was double sinks with a few bamboo shoots on the center of the countertop for decoration.
There was a full separate tub from the shower, and I noticed that the flooring was Italian marble.
The amenities were by Asprey.
A little jar of toiletries came full of Q-tips, cotton balls, and the like.
The view overlooked a courtyard which included serene areas of greenery and trees, one surrounded by a shallow pond.
The minibar fridge was filled, and there were some assorted snacks and liquor available.
The closet was a little small and I couldn’t really use the luggage rack to lay out my suitcase. It was good there were two robes though.
Turndown service brought chocolates with a handsome picture on the wrapper.
It was a warm evening and the room was stuffy, so I turned on the air conditioner when it was time for bed. It was near the bed so the air didn’t move around the room well, just aimed directly at the person on the far side of the bed. It was also noisy. I then had the conundrum of too hot but quiet, or comfortably cool but noisy. Which would you choose?
The service at this hotel was great. The greeting in the lobby and the special treats was great, but the room itself didn’t really get me excited. I think at this price/redemption level I’d choose another hotel in the future.
Ritz-Carlton Tier 4. 60,000 points for a free night.
I’d be grateful if you’d follow me on Twitter!
I love the Kroll paintings at this hotel. They have the one in the lift lobby that you photographed, as well as another one downstairs. The Eau PB (f/k/a RC PB) has a few Krolls too.
Thanks for reading NYBanker! The paintings are gorgeous. I liked the RC PB but don’t recall the ones there. I’ll have to stay there sometime to check out the new(ish) Eau and look at the paintings.
