In London for business I decided to try out the Marriott Maida Vale, which is located in the Camden area. After arriving at Heathrow airport and taking the train to Paddington, it took three more stops later on the Bakerloo line and then a 5 minute walk to get to the hotel.

Checking in, I had Platinum status with Marriott. I had been assigned a Club level Executive room and the friendly check-in agent handed me my keys with a smile, but at only 269 square feet, I asked if they had anything a bit larger. Typically I don’t receive suites at Marriott properties and out of the 237 rooms only 11 of them were suites, but it never hurts to ask. I’m glad I did, because after talking for a few minutes I was given a Jr suite instead!

At 592 square feet the suite was much bigger, but you couldn’t tell from the bedroom. It was similar in size to the regular rooms, because each of the suite areas was separate rather than all in an open floorplan.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

A ripe apple and bottle of water was waiting for me bedside.

There was a nice alcove in which a work space was tucked away. The heater was very close so in the winter when it is cold this would be an extra nice place to sit and work.

The desk held a tea kettle and cups.

There wasn’t much of a view since the room was pretty close to some other buildings, but I could see a slice of the entrance to a courtyard.

A flat screen TV was perched on the dresser, accompanied by two more bottles of water.

The bathroom had a shower/tub combo and vanity mirror.

Counter space was extended over the toilet, which I appreciated since  the counter space by the sink was a bit limited.

The bath amenities were by Aromatherapy.

There was a separate sitting room. The couch turned out to be a good place to sit and work, and the natural light was nice.

The kitchen was tiny but well stocked. It would have really come in handy for a longer stay but since I was there only for one night I didn’t use it.

Executive lounge access was included because of my status. A fridge was stocked with more water and juice, and there was a coffee & tea maker. I didn’t get a chance to check out the afternoon or evening offerings because I had other plans, but typically in overseas properties there are complimentary drinks and snacks.

Full breakfast was included, and when I got there the next morning the room was busy. Breakfast was quite good and there was lots to choose from. The street view from the lounge was also a little more interesting than the view from my room.

Although the suite was nice and the room was clean, the layout was a little strange and I don’t think my chances would be good for getting a suite in the future. I enjoyed the club breakfast. There were no major attractions or shopping within walking distance of the hotel, so the location was out of the way for anything except local business. I don’t think I would stay at this hotel again unless I needed to be nearby.

Good To Go

+ Breakfast was great
+ Located outside of the congestion zone

Good To Know

-  Location is inconvenient for tourists
- Suite size was on the smaller end and layout was odd
