Country crooner Tim McGraw was hired to play at a private event at the well-known Hotel del Coronado Wednesday night. The private client (Zaxby’s chicken restaurants) was celebrating their 25th anniversary and all the corporate big wigs were invited. When the stage was set up for the event, it was done in the area in front of the hotel. Word of the concert leaked online, and hundreds of people hurried to set up lawn chairs and settle in for the show – on the public beach. Would they be allowed to stay?

My guess is that the concert was on the grassy area, which is considered hotel property. Beach going fans probably set up just outside of the grass, on the beach itself.

The City of Coronado was aware of the event since they oversee the public beaches, but as long as fans didn’t cross over to the “private function” area they were allowed to stay.

Tim McGraw started his first song around 8pm, and beachgoers were thrilled to get a free concert for over an hour and a half. San Diego’s Union Tribune reported that Mr. McGraw event sat on the edge of the stage for his song “Just to See You Smile” to give fans a closer view.

  1. FYI….The song is “Just to see you Smile” and he always sings it from sitting on the end of stage.

    1. @MSPDeltaDude thanks for the correction, I’ve updated the song name. Sounds like a much better song with “Smile” rather than “Cry”.
