Come July 8, 2015 a luxury Swiss boutique hotel will be added to Marriott’s Autograph Collection.

The property is called The Hotel, and it is located in Lucerne close to the lake.

The property has just 30 rooms and suites, each of which is slightly different. You may not be able to tell by looking at it but all of the vertical beams in the building are wood, while the horizontal ones are steel. The property is known as being part hotel, part architectural marvel and The Hotel gets strong marks (4.5 stars) on Tripadvisor.

Currently, the hotel has four main different room types –

5 Penthouse/Jr Suite (maximum of 3 guests) – topping out at 530 square feet
10 Garden & Park Loft Suite – approx 430 square feet
5 Corner Junior Suite – approx 345 square feet
10 Deluxe Studio, – approx 260 square feet

The Penthouse Suites have rooftop terraces, and the Garden & Loft Suites have outdoor patios. When booking there is also a category called “Penthouse Deluxe”, which also has a kitchenette.

The designer implemented artwork in the rooms from 30 different film scenes, so each room has a unique wall or ceiling.

According to the press release, room rates will start at 345 CHF (about 370 USD). However, looking at The Hotel’s current website, I could find rates from as low as 132 CHF (around 142 USD). Note that the current website has rates listed per person though, not per room. Plus, there may be some changes to the property so prices may rise in accordance. No word yet on what category this property will be in terms of points for redemption.

The Lounge Bar has a live DJ on the weekends and is supposedly a hip Lucerne nightlife hangout. Bam Bou is the hotel’s Asian & French fusion restaurant.

The Hotel does not show up yet on Marriott’s website but since it will be officially welcomed to the Autograph collection on July 8, 2015 we can expect to see it on there soon. In the meantime you can find more information about the property by looking at their current website The Hotel.

I stayed at this hotel a couple years ago on a work trip. It is a very nice hotel in a convenient part of town. The hotel was a bit lacking, though, when it came to catering to business travelers (no business center, and everything had to be emailed/printed/faxed through the front desk). That said, it would be one of my top choices for a leisure stay in Lucerne.

I have also stayed at the Renaissance in Lucerne, and would rate it much higher for business travel. It is also a very stylish/modern hotel.

ALCO, I wonder if the fact that this property is older (built 1907 I think) might have to do with the slightly archaic business traveler approach. Glad to hear you enjoyed the property though and thanks for reading!
