Expedia has a flash deal offering 15% off on bookings made by today at 2pm Pacific Time for travel before February 9, 2017.

To use the 15% off coupon you must be booking only a hotel rather than a package that includes flights or cars, etc. It is good on bookings with a minimum of $100, and prepayment is required.

Usually when there are coupons offered at Expedia the popular hotel chains are excluded, but when I scoured the list in their Terms & Conditions this time I didn’t see one particular brand. Hyatt properties are included in the sale!

There is no minimum stay requirement so I tried the date of Saturday November 26, 2016 for one night at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square. The rate was $169 but the coupon dropped it down $25 so the total came to $172.11 with taxes and fees.

On Hyatt’s website the best available rate for the same date was $169, and there was no AAA rate available for that date.

The discounted Gold Passport member rate was $161 but the total still came out to $187.65, $15.54 higher than the Expedia booking.

Is the minimal difference worth booking directly through Expedia? It is not for me, because I have status in Hyatt’s loyalty program and want the stay to count towards reaching one of their elite tiers. When you make bookings through third party OTA’s you do not get credit for the night/stay in Hyatt’s Gold Passport program.

Some people not chasing status would rather save the money and book on Expedia, and the savings at other hotels/other nights may be much higher than in this example. Plus, a coupon is a coupon.

Here is the link for Expedia’s flash sale page.

Use coupon code 16FALL15 for 15% off.

When applying the coupon, make sure you click on the words in blue, “enter a coupon or promotion code†to get the box to drop down, before you enter your card details. The coupon code must be applied prior to payment.

The sale terms & conditions say that there is “limited quantity and while supplies last”. Plus the sale ends at 1159pm PDT today so if you see a hotel you want to book, hop on over to Expedia.
