Shangri-La has launched a seasonal offer called “Triple the Points, Double the Rewards”.

When staying at any participating property between June 15 and August 31, 2014 for three nights or more, you’ll earn triple Gold Crown Award points. For stays of one to two nights, you’ll earn double Gold Crown Award points. All stays during the promotion period also earn double qualifying nights towards Golden Circle elite status.

In addition, during the promotion you’ll earn double GC points on hotel restaurant dining and spa even if not staying at the hotel.

You must register before your first stay, and provide your membership number at spa/restaurants if not a hotel guest.

New members that sign up and stay during the promotion will also receive 500 bonus Golden Circle award points.

Properties excluded from this promo are Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa, Philippines, Edsa Shangri-La, Manila, Makati Shangri-La, Manila and Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore.

This promotion is stackable with their “Holiday in Style†promo, which according to the information in the promo includes:

Room accommodation at the best available rate
Complimentary breakfast
Dining and beverage credit up to USD 200

I couldn’t find anything with more information about the dining credit “up to $200”, so I reached out to customer service. They said the amount of dining credit varies by property and by dates. In order to find out how much credit you’d receive at a certain property you’d need to call or ask at check-in.

To get an idea of the Holiday In Style pricing, I entered the date of June 26 on their web portal for one person, one night in Toronto. The best available rate for a twin bed in an Executive room was $367, and the Holiday in Style came to $450 which includes breakfast.

Interestingly, the Deluxe Suite with King bed came up as being $459, and the description for that room says it includes breakfast for two as well. I don’t know about you, but for $10 more I’d spring for the suite!

I then called in to customer service, and found out that the dining credit for that property would be just $50 if I booked the Holiday in Style promotion, which is less than the difference of the room price. I inquired as to the dining credit amount for the Vancouver property, and was told it was also $50. So, if I was staying at one of those properties I’d still register to get double or triple Gold Crown Award points, but unless I found a property where the additional dining credit was greater than the difference in room rate I’d skip the Holiday in Style promotion.
