Live Aqua Upscale Hotels Coming to the US
Grupo Posadas, the largest hotelier in Mexico has announced their international expansion of Live Aqua Hotels & Resorts to the United States. Live Aqua hotels & resorts is currently a small chain of upscale hotels only in Mexico. With the recent partnership between Grupo Posadas and Bighorn Capital, $450 million will be spent to build and launch new properties in at least 5 US cities.
The cities slated to get Live Aqua hotels are –
Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston and Washington, with the first property opening in Chicago in 2017. The hotel will be an 82 story building in downtown Chicago, and will be managed by Début Hotel Group.
According to the press release, the cities were picked specifically because they have large Hispanic communities and tourists from Latin America. Each hotel will have between 250-300 rooms, which is pretty large.
Javier Barrera, Vice President of Posadas said, “We are very excited to introduce the American consumer and international tourists to Live Aqua, our luxury brand with a unique Latin style known for warm, attentive service.”
To get a feel of what Live Aqua is like, here’s a quick look at the Live Aqua hotel in Cancun, and Mexico City.
Live Aqua Cancun is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort. Ratings on various websites are pretty high with an average of 4.5 stars.
Choosing a random date of August 21, 2015 the lowest rate I could find was $360 for a Deluxe Room. There are also suites, and the hotel has a Club Lounge where guests staying in Club Rooms have access to offerings in the lounge which include Continental Breakfast, appetizers and alcohol.

Live Aqua Mexico City Hotel & Spa is not all inclusive, and has just 112 rooms and 23 suites.
Choosing the same date of August 21, 2015 a Deluxe Room was $229. There is no Club Lounge at the property, and ratings for this hotel are also quite high with an average of 4.5 stars.

It will be great to welcome some new upscale properties in the US, but I’m a little curious about their first property in Chicago. According to the press release, construction will start this summer on the 82 story property and be finished and open by 2017. Wait, 82 stories? That’s huge! Seems more than a little ambitious to me, but stay tuned for updates!
