The World’s First Sandcastle Hotel
Looking for somewhere unusual to stay for a night or two? Wishing you could hang on to summer for just a little bit longer before the chill of the winter takes over?
The seasonal Zandhotel Brabant in Oss and Zandhotel Friesland in Sneek, both in The Netherlands may be just the place. They’re both made out of sand! It’s every kid’s dream (and that of some adults too).
The “Zand” or sand hotels are part of a seasonal sand sculpture festival being put on by Global PowWow, which you get complimentary access to as a hotel guest. The festival has more than 30 sand sculptures.
According to the Zandhotel website, one-bedroom suite accommodations include welcome with a bottle of Prosecco, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and a local delicacy, Wifi in the room, tour of the festival, private bathroom with toiletries, and full breakfast the next morning.

Breakfast is even offered in your sandcastle suite, which brings a whole new meaning to having a picnic at the beach. How fun is that!

Reservations can be made by filling out a form on their website, which you can find by clicking here. The price for a room at either hotel is 150 EUR, or about 167 USD. Sounds extremely reasonable, considering breakfast, wifi and festival admission are included, as well as the fact that the rooms are nestled inside a huge sandcastle.
For those worried about a cave in, the hotel structure is reportedly created with thin walls and just covered in sand so you can sleep soundly and reassured. Plus, the bathrooms look to include standard items so you don’t wash the room away.
If you can’t go this year, Zandhotel expects to have this as an annual offering. Or you can just try to create your own sand hotel.
I love the beach and would absolutely stay here. Alas, the festival ends somewhere near the beginning of October so I won’t be able to squeeze it in this year.
