Earlier today I wrote about some pretty incredible gingerbread displays that hotels have created this year.

I love to look at all the huge edible displays that hotels show off each year. Sometimes there is a line, but as a hotel guest you can often get up close to gaze in wonder at all that sugar after daytime gawkers have departed. Some hotels even have dedicated hours or days for daytime visitors, like the Omni Grove Park Inn so that hotel guests have priority when they are most likely to stay at the property.

At home, I also make make my own gingerbread cookies but am definitely not in the league of the massive display bakers!

  1. I have a Finnish friend whose family makes and decorates gingerbread houses every year before Christmas. Then on New Years eave they take them outside and smash them with big sticks. I would like to say this is a national Finnish tradition, but I think they just do it for fun and as a personal family tradition.

  2. I have only tried to make a gingerbread house from scratch once. It was a failure. At least it was an edible failure unlike the boxed kits which usually turn out okay but you probably wouldn’t want to eat one.

  3. I haven’t been out much to see any but I am babysitting next week and taking the kids to IKEA to an activity workshop where they will make Gingerbread houses. A kid’s meal is included. All for a low price of $10 each (I had to buy the tickets in advance.)

  4. The Swedish Chef makes a gingerbread house at Hollywood Studios for their Christmas display. The short video is hillarious!

  5. There were a few at the Gaylord Texan when I was there last month! They looked really out of place in the 60 degree weather.

  6. The houses the kids made when they were little were the best. No structural integrity and a questionable aesthetic, but precious and memorable

  7. Holiday party for work at the Gaylord in National Harbor outside of DC last night. They had a great gingerbread mock-up of the White House and other dc landmarks!

  8. Although the gingerbread houses at the Nuremburg Christmas Market weren’t over the top, they were authentic and seeing them at the stands in the Markt with a light snow falling was simply magical! Love your giveaways!

  9. I haven’t seen any Gingerbread House yet, however, I will be traveling over the Holiday’s and will be looking for them in places I visit. Thanks for the opportunity.

  10. If you live near the New Hope, PA. area, the shop conglomeration called Peddlers’ Village always has a gingerbread house contest every year. They are on display in a gazebo, but wear appropriate clothing, as it can be cold and the lines can be long to get in. Admission is free.

  11. A couple of years ago my son had, just recently, joined the Cub Scouts. We decided to make creative gingerbread house and he put together the cutest little Cub Scout tent camp. Complete with colored frosting, Twizzlers, and M&Ms.

  12. I saw some amazing chocolate buildings in Berlin 10 years ago, I don’t think I’ve seen any gingerbread houses during my travels. I must be traveling at the wrong time!

  13. I remember one gingerbread house in a casino hotel in Reno a couple of years back that was stunning. Such great work goes into those public displays. Happy Holidays!

  14. I am not doing any baking this year as I am focused right now on losing weight and do not need any extra temptations! Thanks for the giveaways.
