Yesterday I outlined the grand opening sale for the Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva all-inclusive properties in Jamaica, which is a good deal at 50% off. You can find that information here. Many readers booked, including one who sent me a message.

Reader Ray said, “Any idea what room type DSU(Diamond Suite Upgrade) upgrades you into? I booked for end of Jan 2015 in an Ocean View King and would love to apply a DSU as it would expire in Feb anyways :)”

I was curious so I called the Diamond line to inquire. After a long pause, the first person said it would book into an Ocean View King. I said that wouldn’t make sense since the whole point of the Upgrade instrument is to get a Suite. They were adamant, so in the style of View from the Wing I hung up and called back. The second person didn’t know, and the third person contacted the hotel directly only to come back with an apology that the hotel hasn’t sorted that out yet.

I reached out to Hyatt’s Guest Relations department, who were happy to look into it for me.

The official response I received back is here –

I am happy to hear about your excitement for our new hotels in Jamaica, Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall! The current suites for Diamond Suite upgrades are Ziva Ocean View suites. However, I do believe that this is still being discussed. Also, we cannot confirm Diamond Suite Upgrades until the property is actually open.

There are several types of Ziva Ocean View Suites – the Jr Suite, One Bedroom Butler Suite, One Bedroom Swim Up Suite, and One Bedroom Oceanfront. I’ve asked for clarification, and will get an update out once there is more information available. Stay tuned!

  1. I have a booking for December for 7 nights and spoke to several agents regarding using one of my DSU’s and was repeatedly told that the upgrade would be to a Ocean view king. I gave up after repeated attempts and figured should wait until the property officially opens it doors.
